Aye, it be true. This day be a PIRATE day!

There once was a pirate named Jack,
Who wore a tattoo on his back,
He absolutely loved to fight,
Believe it or not - in the night!
That funny old pirate named Jack.

NOTE:
All poems and limericks are best when read aloud!!!

There was a funny crew of two,
that needed just another few,
They went out to sea,
chose a pirate named Lee,
and now they have a proper pirate crew!

"There once was a pirate bird named Pat,
Who didn't know why he was so fat.
He sang a looong song
And got it all wrong!
But the pirate still loved that old Pat."

Pete the Pirate Wannabe
A Funny Pirate Poem for Kids by --Kenn Nesbitt

He's Pete, the pirate wannabe.
He'll sail the seas someday.
But, first, he needs a little cash
to help him on his way.

He can't afford a parrot.
He can't afford a plank.
A peg leg's much too pricey,
and a ship would break the bank.

He cannot buy an eye patch.
He hasn't got a hat.
He'll never own a blunderbuss;
he's much too broke for that.

A dagger's too expensive.
He couldn't swing a sword.
In fact, there's only one thing
he's been able to afford.

His shopping list is lengthy,
with loads of pirate gear,
but all he has are earrings
since they're just a buck an ear.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!

  1. Do you know Jan Loof's "My Grandpa Was A Pirate" 1966. It has been a favorite of my own two boys (now men) and little ones for whom I regularly read aloud. Alas, it and its author/illustrator are little known. It is a winner!

    1. Found it on a vintage children’s book site. Thanks for the recommendation!

  2. I decided to tweak the last three lines of the pirate limerick:

There once was a pirate named Jack
Who wore a tattoo on his back
    With a parrot who'd squawk
    'Cause that tattoo did talk
And with many a verbal attack
